It’s a Measuring Conspiracy!!

Posted by SusanDevine on September 22nd, 2012

It’s a conspiracy! When did standard measuring cups and spoons change size.? My measuring cups and spoons are getting on a bit so thought I would buy some new ones. Nice stainless steel ones with sizes stampedĀ  on the handles, this lot should survive the dishwasher! Since when was a metric standard cup size 240ml, or a tablespoon 15ml? A quick check of a few of my cookbooks says it should be 250ml and 20ml, that’s what my rather ancient set is. Who decided it should change and does it make any difference! Should I take my new sets back to Target or go with the flow?

I’ll bet the manufacturer is using US measurements, because our cup is 8 oz and that converts to right around 240ml (I have a couple of websites I use for conversions so I can use your recipes!)
